An upcoming episode of The Kardashians reveals growing tensions within the Kardashian-Jenner family over a tell-all book about Kim Kardashian, with Kris Jenner reportedly expressing frustration about the project and questioning why private family matters were included. A preview of the Thursday, November 12, episode of the Hulu reality series offers a glimpse into the disagreement, showing Kim attempting to discuss the book before being interrupted by her family members.
In the preview, Kim Kardashian, 46, begins discussing the project, saying, “The one thing I find so interesting in the book …” However, Kourtney Kardashian interrupts her and asks which book she is referring to. Kim then explains that an author has spent the past six years interviewing members of their family. Her explanation immediately draws a sarcastic response from Kris, who appears visibly upset and remarks, “Somebody else to analyze us. Perfect.”
The conversation quickly becomes uncomfortable as Kris expresses her concerns about the project and the decision to share personal family stories with an outside author. Kim attempts to understand her mother’s frustration, but the two struggle to see the situation from each other’s perspectives. In another moment from the preview, Kris, 70, directly criticises the arrangement, saying, “You have just given our rights to our lives away to some stranger.” She then becomes increasingly frustrated and walks away from the conversation, declaring, “I gotta go.”
The book at the centre of the disagreement is Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future, which was released in October. Written by Jonathan Van Meter, the book explores Kim’s life, career and influence, offering readers an insight into the reality television star through interviews with her family members and people close to her. Van Meter spent several years speaking with Kim’s relatives and loved ones to develop a detailed account of her personal and professional journey.
The author recently provided further insight into the family’s reaction to the book, revealing that Kim contacted him late at night a few months before its release. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Van Meter explained that he had been told Kim was visiting her sister Khloé Kardashian when Khloé informed her that Kris had become extremely upset about the book during filming of the family’s reality show.
According to Van Meter, Kris had reportedly reacted strongly after discovering that certain personal details from her past were included in the publication. The author claimed Kim told him that her mother had been shouting, questioning why Kim had involved the entire family in the project and why her affair from approximately 30 years earlier had been mentioned.
Van Meter also suggested that the disagreement did not remain a major issue for long, claiming that Kris was doing fine a few days after the incident. He further explained that Kim had reportedly defended her decision by telling her mother that the family had been discussed and written about for years, and that an author had finally come forward who understood them and wanted to explain their story. According to Van Meter, Kim questioned why her mother would not welcome that opportunity.
The author admitted that this was the closest he came to understanding Kim Kardashian’s reasons for pursuing the book. Although he did not share further details about the family’s private conversations, his account offers additional context to the disagreement teased in the upcoming episode.
Kris’s reported frustration may also be connected to the book’s discussion of her past relationship with Todd Waterman, which took place during her marriage to the late Robert Kardashian. Jenner previously spoke openly about the affair during a 2023 episode of The Kardashians, describing it as one of the biggest regrets of her life.
Reflecting on that period, Kris admitted that she had found herself in a situation where she believed the grass was greener somewhere else. She acknowledged making a serious mistake and described the decision as her life’s biggest regret. Her earlier comments provide context for why the inclusion of the affair in a book about Kim Kardashian and her family may have been particularly sensitive.
The upcoming episode is expected to offer viewers a closer look at how the family navigates disagreements over privacy, personal history and the stories shared about them publicly. With Kim standing by a project intended to provide a deeper understanding of her life and Kris questioning the decision to expose private family experiences, the disagreement highlights the complicated relationship between personal identity and public attention within the Kardashian-Jenner family.
New episodes of The Kardashians are released every Thursday on Hulu.
